Traditions in Russian literature

The school is headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor Victoria Zakharova – a member of the editorial boards of the scientific yearbook "Roczniki Humanistyczne" (Poland), included in the international scientometric database Web of Science, of the international scientific journal "Modern Humanities Success" (Belgorod) and of the International Commission on Emigrantology of Slavs of the International Committee of Slavists (Poland).

The main areas of the school's activities include:

  • the study of the category of tradition in the literary process in the context of historical poetics;
  • the study of the typology of the Russian literary consciousness;
  • the identification of the role of tradition in the study of the axiology of Slavic cultures;
  • the study of the functioning of traditions in the general process of Russian-foreign relations;
  • the development of issues related to the Orthodox-Christian basis of Russian literary consciousness

The scientific school contributes to the modern understanding of the category of "literary consciousness" from the perspective of historical poetics and its typological content in the Russian literature of the 18th-20th centuries. At the current stage of development of the history and theory of literature, literary consciousness from the point of view of its typological comprehension appears to be the most significant literary category that allows for a comprehensive in-depth analysis of multifaceted phenomena of the literary process in Russia, their evolution and interaction. The study of the typology of the "great literary time", as well as particular renditions by individual authors, is a task of modern literary  studies, to which the work of representatives of the scientific school contributes.

 The scientific school's activities have been repeatedly supported by grants from the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research: organization and holding of the international scientific conference "Nizhny Novgorod Text of Russian Literature"; preparation of a review article "Value vectors of the development of Russian literature in the focus of research of the Nizhny Novgorod text of Russian literature".

The Russian-Polish Center for Dialogue and Accord and the Russian World  foundations supported the Summer Schools "Bridge over the Volga" and "Literature of the Russian Diaspora: Faces, Destinies, Books" held by the scientific school’s team.

The project of the scientific school "Spiritual, moral and literary originality of V.A.Nikiforov-Volgin’s prose (in the context of the literature of the Russian Diaspora)" was supported by the Russian Science Foundation.
